About Mata Amritanandamayi, known as Amma:-
Mata Amritanandamayi, was born in a family of lower-caste Malayali fishermen at Parayakadavu in Karunagappally, Kollam District, in the state of Kerala, on 27 September 1953. Her father'sname Sugunanandan and mother Damayanti. She was not born crying like other babies, due to her always beaming smile in her face, she was named Sudhamani. From her early childhood she could sing constantly, compose extraordinary hymns related to Lord Krishna. From that little age she stareted to learn the hard truth of survival, starving of people, dying of people without treatment, suffering from intense pain, negligence of elderly people by their own family etc. She began to contemplate the question of suffering. She started to share her belongings to them, food, cloath, medicines whatever she could at her little age. By the age of 22 She felt the divinity, the strong connection with her loving God Krishna. She started appearing in Krishna Bhava. She got sublimed in Krishna Bhava, that She often forgot to bathe or even eat, such was Her longing to see Devi. She was abandoned by her family against her spiritual life, but the animals adored her and did their best to make her as happy and comfortable as possible. After long deep meditation and starvation, the Universal Motherhood that was awakened within Her. She spontaneously embraced everyone who came to Her, experiencing each one as Her very own child. Lots of people were coming each day to spend a few moments with her. 'Amma' would listen to their sorrows and console them. She also began to teach them about the true purpose of life. In 1981, the construction of a few humble thatched huts next to Amma’s family home marked the beginning of the 'Mata Amritanandamayi Math'. At present at Amritapuri, South India it is now also the home of monks, nuns and householder devotees and students. They have been inspired by Amma’s teaching and have dedicated themselves to serving the world.Location and Address:-
